After the 1996 Olympics, the Downtown area grew in popularity as a place to call home. More and more people were interested in experiencing an urban lifestyle.

Many residents wake up in the comfort of a cool, retro loft or condo that has been converted from an old warehouse or factory. Residents are energized and relieved to avoid the interstates with the Marta system that goes virtually anywhere. Short commutes and short walks are a reality for intown dwellers. Coffee shops, parks, the theater, concert venues and sports events are all available in the downtown area. Bustling nightlife, one of a kind shops and a truly diverse community are among a few of the assets of downtown life.

Centennial Olympic Park and Turner Field are wonderful downtown attractions. At Centennial Olympic Park, watch free concerts in the summer, take walks around the fountains or glimpse wonderful city views. Many downtown residents enjoy a classic game of baseball at Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves. Restaurants and bars host special Braves parties and supply customers with transportation to and from the games. Other exciting sporting events include watching the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome or catching a game of hockey at Phillips Arena.

Many historic landmarks like Underground Atlanta are hot spots. In the past it was used as a railroad way and has since been restored into a popular hangout for many Georgians with shopping, dining and entertainment. Another popular historic haunt is the Tabernacle. Used for performances by many mainstream bands, this sanctuary encases beautiful hand painted artwork and intricate architecture. Lenny Kravitz, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Dave Matthews Band, Willie Nelson and Kenny Wayne Shepherd are a few of its performers. The World of Coca-Cola offers the history of the beverage over the past 110 years. Through its unique architectural style, visitors can walk under the three dimensional Coca-Cola globe that hangs 18 feet and then into a three story sky-lit atrium.

Sweet Auburn Historic District is the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr., which has given this area a rich heritage. Located along Auburn Avenue, between Courtland St. and I-75/85 in Downtown Atlanta, Sweet Auburn is known for the market, an institution on Edgewood Avenue since 1923 that sells vegetables, fish, flowers, prepared foods and meat. Individual stalls operated by separate owners make this a true public market.

Dining out is a treasure of Downtown Atlanta from exceptional breweries to mouthwatering steakhouses. One restaurant you won't want to miss is the Sun Dial. This tri-level building features a rotating restaurant and bar that stands 723 feet above Atlanta with spectacular panoramic views of the city. To get a taste of southern-inspired cuisine, visit the Atlanta Grill, a warm atmosphere with award winning entrees and vintage photographs of life downtown. Maybe a drink at an urban oasis sounds more appealing. The Mark Lounge is a sophisticated haven where you can enjoy martinis and music in a comfortable, ultra chic environment.
